As promised last Sunday by Executive Editor Jim Witt in his column, today marks the debut of the new Star-Telegram.Witt filled in readers about the changes throughout the paper, but I want to elaborate on whats happening with the opinion pages.Regular editorial page readers no doubt notice whats missing from todays page: weather. As much as I joked about the rationale of having the editorial on the same page as the worlds weather forecast -- after all, both are opinions -- moving the weather to the back page of the Tarrant & Texas section was fine with me. On Wednesday through Saturday, the opinion pages will have more space for Cheers and Jeers.Yes, you read that correctly. One of the papers most popular features will expand beyond its Saturday-only territory. We receive hundreds of these 50-word gems from readers every month, and theyre published in the order received. Even after we print a full page of odes to nice folks and darts to dunderheads, it often takes four weeks after an item was received before it appears in print.Beginning this week, well be using Cheers and Jeers that respond to news stories, columns or editorials in the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday pages. Saturdays still will have plenty of space for those shout-outs to -- or at -- neighbors, strangers or local businesses.
